Andre Iguodala On ‘Weaknesses’ In Warriors And Heat Cultures

Andre Iguodala is one of the most important players of his generation.

After starting out his career as a high-flying primary scorer, he evolved later on to become a meaningful contributor to the Golden State Warriors’ championship teams.

Iguodala’s ability to stop LeBron James in the 2014 NBA Finals, as evidenced by the latter’s shooting percentage dropping by six full percent whenever he was being guarded by the former, ultimately earned him NBA Finals MVP honors.

As a smart and tough veteran who has spent time with notable franchises like the Warriors and Miami Heat, Iguodala is well equipped to speak on team culture.

During an appearance on Draymond Green’s podcast this past week, he did precisely that.

“Our (Warriors) environment is a little more relaxed,” he said.

“It’s got some hippy vibes to it, go at your own pace, go as you please. Miami is kind of like, straight and narrow, everybody in formation. I could see weaknesses in both. Because both had a lot of success—Pat Riley is probably one of the most successful players/coaches/GMs in NBA history. He’s done it at every level. We had success here, and I saw some flaws here.”

That said – Iguodala sees the value in both methods.

“Being in those two places, I tried to step back and appreciate the value in both sides,” he continued. “When I was there, I saw some things we did with the Warriors that I could bring to some of the players to the team—some guys might not be as mentally strong at a young age, nudge them and get them to open up a little bit.”

Whether he is breaking down NBA team cultures or explaining how to stop James, Iguodala is always a wealth of knowledge.

There’s a reason why he is so respected by his peers and retired players alike. The man has been through it, done it all and come out successful on the other end.
