Ricky Rubio started this season off as a key veteran presence for the Cleveland Cavaliers. A lot of the team’s early success can at least somewhat be traced back to the leadership and stability he provided.
Unfortunately, during a late December game against the New Orleans Pelicans, Rubio suffered a torn left ACL. The injury ended his season and immediately threw his future with the Cavaliers in question.
Rubio is currently in the final season of a 3-year, $51 million contract and set to become a free agent in the offseason.
That makes him a prime trade candidate ahead of next week’s NBA Trade Deadline.
During a recent interview, as transcribed by HoopsHype, Rubio revealed one team he would love to play for at some point: the Golden State Warriors.
“Every trade deadline I’m involved in rumors… not even while injured I’m safe,” he said. “It’s a little stressful, my family suffers. It’s not nice being in rumors”
That said, if given the opportunity to play alongside Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson on the Warriors, Rubio would welcome it.
“It would be nice to play with Curry and Klay Thompson,” he said.
This isn’t the first time Rubio has expressed interest in linking up with a title contender.

Given that he has played the entirety of his career for the Minnesota Timberwolves, Utah Jazz, Phoenix Suns (pre-Chris Paul) and now Cavaliers, it’s easy to see why Rubio yearns for the opportunity to truly challenge for an NBA championship.
Will he get his wish at some point? Time will tell.
