Navy football player David Forney was found dead on Saturday morning in his dorm room.

The 22-year-old was discovered unresponsive and 911 was immediately called.

Forney started in all 13 outings for Navy last season as an offensive guard. With him at the helm of the offensive line, the Midshipmen led the entire nation in rushing yards with 361 per showing.

The head coach of Navy, Ken Niumatalolo released a somber statement following Forney’s passing.

“Words cannot express our pain and sorrow,” he said.

“First and foremost, our deepest condolences to the Forney family.  The Navy Football Brotherhood is not a team, we are a family.  We are devastated to have lost one of our brothers.

“We all loved – and will always love – David.  We pray for strength during this most difficult time.”

Forney started in 39 outings over the past three seasons for Navy. He was set to graduate in May and assigned to commission as a cryptographic warfare officer.

The cause of Forney’s death remains unknown at this time. Further information should be provided in the coming days.
