Randy Arozarena Sends a Classy Message to Heckling Tigers Fan on a Baseball

Randy Arozarena turned a Tigers fan trying to get under his skin into a fan for life. He did it with a Sharpie and a baseball.
The Mariners outfielder was playing in Detroit on Sunday at Comerica Park when self-described professional heckler Trevor Gilmore started chirping him from the seats. Most stars ignore that kind of thing or hand it back with a stare. Arozarena took a different route entirely.
In the second inning, Arozarena pointed at Gilmore, walked over, and tossed him a baseball. The message written on it has now traveled the entire baseball internet.
“I don’t speak English! Yell what you want! But I understand you! I don’t care! I love you.”
That is, on paper, one of the better heckler responses in recent memory. Gilmore posted the photo to Instagram and admitted he was caught off guard.
“Started Chirping @randy_arozarena today at Tigers/Mariners. Second inning he comes out, points to me, and throws me this ball,” Gilmore wrote in the caption.
There is something delightfully chaotic about Arozarena’s note. He says he does not speak English. He clearly understands every word being yelled at him. He writes that note in actual English. Then he closes with “I love you” because he is Randy Arozarena and that is exactly how he moves through the world.
The two-time All-Star has always been one of the most entertaining personalities in the sport, going back to his Tampa Bay Rays days when he was hitting playoff homers and doing the gunslinger pose at home plate. Detroit just got a small reminder of why.
The on-field result was not as fun for him. The Mariners lost 5-4 to the Tigers, which felt fitting since this is the kind of game heckler Gilmore lives for. He got a souvenir and a win.
For Arozarena, the moment was also a reset. Months ago he caused some chatter when he allegedly said something far less friendly in Spanish after teammate Cal Raleigh snubbed him on a handshake during a World Baseball Classic game. That story did not paint him in the best light. This one absolutely does.
Baseball is at its best when its stars have personality. Arozarena has always had it in abundance. A Tigers fan came in looking for a moment and ended up with a story he will tell for the rest of his life.
Mariners fans will appreciate the gesture too. The team’s season has been a grind. They are in a tight AL West race, the rotation has been inconsistent, and the bats have been streaky. Moments like this remind everyone that the players still enjoy the game.
For Detroit, the win was important. The Tigers are trying to stay in playoff contention with their roster in flux around persistent Tarik Skubal trade rumors. Beating a quality opponent at home matters. The Arozarena moment was just the side note that ended up dominating the postgame coverage.
Heckler Gilmore probably will not be back to chirp Arozarena again. He got the best possible outcome. A signed ball, a viral post, and a story that has now traveled across baseball internet. That is exactly the kind of moment that turns into family lore.
