Red Sox Get Very Honest About Mookie Betts Trade
The Red Sox got very honest about the Mookie Betts trade that earned them so much criticism over the past week.
On Monday, Boston officially confirmed that its deal with the Los Angeles Dodgers for the 2018 AL MVP was official.
Betts is heading to Los Angeles – much to the chagrin of Red Sox fans who feel their team has sacrificed winning for saving some money.
While the anger is certainly understandable, it is still worth remembering that even with Betts and pitcher David Price, the Red Sox still went 84-78 and missed the postseason last year.
It is not like the team is pulling this move on the heels of 2018’s World Series.
The Red Sox tried bringing the band back last year and, quite plainly, it did not work.

In an effort to explain away the trade, Boston’s chief baseball officer Chaim Bloom has come out and offered his thoughts on what has transpired.
“What Mookie and David are capable of on the field is a lot,” he said.
“I certainly think it’s reasonable to expect that we’re going to be worse without them, but we have real good talent coming back,” he continued.
“We’ve added talent to the roster this winter and I think it’s important to point out, we felt at the beginning of the winter that this team had a lot more talent than the 84 wins that it put up last year.”
While losing Betts obviously is not great, Boston still has some notable names on the roster. Guys like J.D. Martinez, Xander Bogaerts and Rafael Devers are still centerpieces in the lineup. Chris Sale and Eduardo Rodriguez remain on the pitching staff.
Frankly, for all the hoopla, it really would not be all that shocking if the Red Sox re-emerged next season with a better record than the one they had this past year.
