Phillies, Cubs, Rockies Working On Big Trade?
The Phillies, Cubs and Rockies are working on a big trade, it appears.
Chicago has made it no secret that the organization wants to trade Kris Bryant.
The 28-year-old’s name has been floated in multiple proposed deals over the past few weeks, particularly following his lost grievance with the organization.
One squad frequently mentioned as a potential trade partner for Bryant’s services is Philly.
The big problem with the Phillies bringing Bryant is that they lack the financial flexibility to do so. His contract would push the team’s luxury-tax payroll to $223.2 million.
In that circumstance, Philadelphia would have to pay upwards of $3 million in tax.
If that were to happen, Bryant would cost $21.64 million – and that is before you factor in the pieces you trade away to get him.

Chicago will likely want some combination of Alec Bohm and Scott Kingery in return.
If the Phillies don’t step up to the plate for a Bryant trade, Colorado just might.
The Rockies and Cubs may end up doing a swap centered around Nolan Arenado, who desperately wants to get away from the Rockies.
One way or another, a deal for Bryant will likely happen sooner rather than later.
At this point it is not a matter of if, just when.
