Jessica Mendoza Sparks Controversy With Astros Comments
Jessica Mendoza sparked controversy with her Astros comments this week.
On Monday, MLB commissioner Rob Manfred came out and implicated Houston in a far-reaching cheating scandal.
The fallout was immediate.
Skipper AJ Hinch and general manager Jeff Luhnow were fired swiftly. Boston Red sox manager and former Astros bench coach, Alex Cora, was given the boot one day later.
Despite these punishments, many felt like the Astros got off relatively easy. Their World Series win was not vacated and it does not appear that any players will be penalized for their roles in what transpired.
“To go public with it and call them out and start all of this, it’s hard to swallow.”

Mendoza, an ESPN analyst, was still dissatisfied with how the Astros were treated, though.
Appearing on ESPN’s Golic and Wingo show, Mendoza suggested that she did not like how information regarding the cheating scandal ultimately came out.
“I mean I get it. If you’re — if you’re with the Oakland A’s and you’re on another team, I mean heck yeah you better be telling your teammates, ‘Hey look heads up if you hear some noises when you’re pitching this is what’s going on,” she said.
“But to go public? That didn’t sit well with me. Honestly, it made me sad for the sport that this is how it all got found out.”
Needless to say, Mendoza was heavily criticized for her take after the fact.
As of Thursday afternoon she has yet to issue a response to the backlash.
