Jazz Chisholm Jr. was one of the biggest names on the trade market this summer, and even though he did not get moved at the deadline, the rumors are not going away. The Miami Marlins have been in full sell mode, and Chisholm’s name keeps coming up in every conversation.
The Marlins are in a full rebuild. They have already moved several veterans in recent years and are trying to bring in as much prospect capital as possible while they still have tradeable assets. Chisholm is one of the most tradeable assets in baseball. He is young, he is under team control, and he plays multiple positions at a high level.
The Yankees have been the most consistent name in Chisholm rumors. New York would love to add a versatile infielder who can play second base, third base, or shortstop depending on the day. Chisholm fits the profile perfectly, and Yankee Stadium would be a great home ballpark for his left-handed power.
The reason he did not get moved at the deadline was reportedly Miami’s asking price. The Marlins wanted a package that included top prospects and possibly a young big-league player. The Yankees were not willing to meet that price, at least not yet. That could change in the offseason if Miami lowers the ask.
Chisholm’s contract situation makes this interesting. He is under team control for one more year after this one before hitting free agency. Miami has a diminishing window to trade him at maximum value. Every month that passes reduces what he can bring back. That should push the Marlins to be more aggressive in the offseason if they cannot land the right deal now.
The Phillies were also linked to Chisholm. Philadelphia added Luis Arraez at the deadline, which likely reduces the urgency of adding another infielder. But if injuries hit or if the roster construction shifts, Chisholm could still fit.
The Padres have infielder needs and love to make big splashes. AJ Preller has never been shy about pulling the trigger on a splashy trade, and Chisholm is exactly the kind of player he would target.
Chisholm himself has stayed professional through the rumor cycles. He continues to play hard and produce for a Marlins team that has been noncompetitive for most of the season. That kind of professionalism only makes him more attractive to a contender. Nobody wants to trade for a distraction.
The on-field production has been solid. Chisholm has hit for average and power, played strong defense at second base, and been a positive presence in the clubhouse. The concerns about his consistency and health from earlier in his career have quieted down. He looks like a legitimate above-average major-league regular.
The Marlins fanbase is understandably frustrated. Every year seems to bring another wave of trades that send fan favorites to bigger markets. That is the reality of playing baseball in a small market with an ownership group that refuses to spend. Chisholm becoming the next casualty of that reality feels inevitable.
The offseason is when this gets resolved. If the Marlins are going to trade him, it will happen between November and January. That gives multiple teams time to figure out their needs and build the right package. The bidding war could produce a real return for Miami.
For Yankees fans specifically, this is a plot line worth following. Adding Chisholm would give New York a versatile infielder to complement their other pieces and take some load off Aaron Judge and the veterans. The financials work. The fit works. It is just a matter of Miami’s price coming down.
