When he has been on the field, he has hit. When he has not, and he has not been often, the team has moved on without him.
The Yankees do have flexibility here. Stanton’s contract has been an anchor for years, but the team has developed enough young talent and made enough big-league moves that Stanton is now essentially a bonus if healthy, not a load-bearing wall.
