Mike McCarthy offered a smart take on Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott.

Speaking to reporters at his introductory press conference on Wednesday, McCarthy made it a point to praise Prescott and acknowledge how special of a talent he is.

“What he’s done so far is very impressive,” McCarthy said of his new quarterback.

“I think like a lot of us, in the league, you watch people from afar. But when you have a chance to watch a player live, and I can recall his rookie year when we played him in Green Bay, so I’ve always been impressed with him.

“You’re gonna be able to run the whole offense and then some. And I think he has an incredible foundation to build off of,” he continued.

“Our offensive system will be built around making the quarterback successful. That’s the way I’ve learned it, and that’s the way I believe you play offense. We have a great one there to work with.”

McCarthy enjoyed immense success with the Green Bay Packers, including eight postseason appearances and one Super Bowl.

Still, the one lingering issue that has been held against him ever since he and the Packers parted ways was how this relationship with Aaron Rodgers deteriorated.

McCarthy clearly wants to make sure that history does not repeat itself with Prescott.

Prescott is coming off the most impressive year of his career. In 2019, he threw for 4,902 yards and 30 touchdowns. He also record an eye-popping 8.2 yards per attempt – a career high.

Based on how successful the McCarthy-Rodgers relationship was until it wasn’t, the Cowboys can likely expect at least a few good years out of McCarthy and Prescott’s relationship.
