Mayor Orders Redskins Change Their Name, Is Ignored

The Mayor of Washington, D.C. came out this week and calling for the Washington Redskins to change their team name. However, due to past actions, some critics have taken to ignoring Mayor Muriel Bowser based on past actions and a proven lack of follow-through.

Back in 2014, then-council member Bowser signed a resolution demanding the Redskins change their name.

However, after taking a very public stance about not even uttering the football team’s name in public, the future mayor reversed course. At the time, many believed it was to earn favor with team owner Dan Snyder.

Now Mayor Bowser’s calls for a name change are being met with a lukewarm response.

“I think it’s past time for the team to deal with what offends so many people,” she said.

“This is a great franchise with a great history, that’s beloved in Washington, and it deserves a name that reflects the affection that we feel for the team.”

Despite the mayor’s vocal opposition to the Redskins name, most people are largely ignoring the demand for a name change.
