Will Matt Rhule be named the next Carolina Panthers head coach?

The Carolina Panthers made the unsurprising decision to part ways with Ron Rivera earlier this year. Although both parties enjoyed success together over the past decade, a change was clearly needed.

Numerous names have been mentioned as potential contenders to fill Carolina’s vacancy, but the most serious one appears to be Rhule.

According to ESPN, the Baylor head coach will interview with the Panthers following his Sugar Bowl showdown versus Georgia.

“The Panthers plan to interview Baylor coach Matt Rhule, 44, for their head coaching job,” ESPN reported.

“Rhule’s team is playing Georgia in the Sugar Bowl on New Year’s Day. Owner David Tepper said it would be a tough transition for a college coach, but hasn’t ruled out hiring one.”

Rhule has been with Baylor since 2017 and has had a particularly impressive 2019 campaign.

The 44-year-old has been discussed for multiple NFL coaching vacancies this year, so if he does not come to terms with Carolina, there is still a very good chance he will coaching in the pro ranks next year.
