Lane Kiffin will be the next Florida State head coach.

Kiffin, 44, is currently the head football coach at Florida Atlantic University.

In three seasons with the Owls, he has led the program to a 24-13 mark. They went 11-3 in his first year at the school, won a mere five games in Year 2, and then have won eight games so far in 2019.

Does that track record qualify him for a promotion?

Some people seem to think so.

According to a report by Football Scoop, Kiffin “has been vetted” in Florida State University’s search for a new head football coach.

FSU abruptly fired Willie Taggart this year after less than two seasons of middling disappointment. There has been a lot of speculation regarding who they would ultimately hire to replace him. Names like Brian Kelly, Bob Stoops, Deion Sanders, Matt Rhule and James Franklin have all been mentioned.

Kiffin is obviously one of the more outspoken coaches in the college game and would bring with him the experience of under performing at USC and Tennessee.

There have been reports that FSU has also vetted Indiana’s Tom Allen and that players really like Odell Haggins – but that if that is the only competition Kiffin is facing then the job is as good as his.

Is Kiffin definitely getting the Florida State job? Obviously anything can happen.

Are the chances of him getting it better today than they were this time one week ago?

Absolutely.
