Lamar Jackson Livid Over Adam Schefter’s Dwayne Haskins Tweet

Lamar Jackson Livid Over Adam Schefter’s Dwayne Haskins Tweet

Baltimore Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson has never been afraid to speak his mind.

Early Saturday morning, the 25-year-old directed his ire towards ESPN NFL insider Adam Schefter.

Earlier in the day, Schefter broke the news of Dwayne Haskins’ tragic death.

Schefter chose to do so in the form of a particularly controversial tweet.

“Dwayne Haskins, a standout at Ohio State before struggling to catch on with Washington and Pittsburgh in the NFL, died this morning when he got hit by a car in South Florida, per his agent Cedrick Saunders,” he wrote. “Haskins would have turned 25 years old on May 3.”

For obvious reasons, the “struggling to catch on with Washington and Pittsburgh in the NFL” part rubbed many people the wrong way.

After receiving a ton of backlash, Schefter deleted the tweet. But it was too late.

Shortly thereafter, Jackson called the ESPN insider out.

Jackson’s frustration is understandable.

While Haskins obviously experienced some difficulties throughout his NFL run, namely a notable strip club controversy and his private text messages getting exposed to the public, he was much more than just that. He was also the survivor of domestic abuse — even though his struggles went largely unnoticed because he is a man — and a beloved family member.

On a professional level, he was a young talent quietly evolving into a more complete package. The sky was the limit for him.

Based on all that, it’s easy to see why emotions regarding Haskins’ death would be raw – and why Schefter’s tweet woke evoke so much ill will.

Will Schefter ultimately come out and offer a more formal apology for his insensitivity? Time will tell.
