Jets Respond To Stealing Dak Prescott From Cowboys
The Jets responded to possibly stealing Dak Prescott from the Cowboys recently.
Their response? Nah, Sam Darnold is better.
Recently, Sports Illustrated writer Kristian Dyer recounted a quote from Jets exec Marc Ross in which he compared Prescott to Darnold.
In Ross’ estimation, there is really no contest. His current starting quarterback has the higher ceiling.
“I think Sam just has more natural playmaking ability than Dak,” Ross said.
“Maybe not as consistent right now but Dak, to me, is if you need to go win a game, he’s not that caliber quarterback where Sam Darnold has shown flashes of that. And I believe still has potential to be that guy.”
Last year, Darnold recorded 3,024 yards, 19 scores and 13 picks. Some of those numbers are a bit lower than anticipated because he missed three outings after coming down with mono. However, part of the underwhelming numbers is just the fact that he has yet to live up to his potential.
Prescott, meanwhile, amassed 4,902 yards, 30 touchdowns and 11 picks last year.
By any objective measure, he is a far superior quarterback to Darnold at this stage in the game.
While is certainly understandable that Jets brass would want to prop up their own quarterback, that does not change the reality that if they ever had the opportunity to bring on Prescott and dump Darnold, they absolutely should.
