NBA legend Phil Jackson turned 76 years old this past Friday. While he has been the subject of some not-so-great press in recent years, at one point he was nearly-universally recognized as the greatest basketball coach of all time.
One person who was really excited about Jackson’s birthday?
Los Angeles Lakers owner Jeanie Buss.
She took to social media to post this heartfelt message:
The best to ever do it. Happy Birthday PJ!!! https://t.co/PVOIaIBUVS

Buss is no stranger to sending out great birthday wishes. She sent an extremely flirty message to Michael Jordan when his big day rolled around.
After an extremely long and highly-publicized romantic relationship, Buss and Jackson split as a couple in 2016. Despite that, they’ve clearly maintained a friendly rapport and wish each other the best.
That’s one way to do it. https://t.co/QbFS5uYpUn

Jackson’s basketball resume stands above that of pretty much anyone in the sport’s history. He has won 11 titles as a coach and 2 as a player – making him arguably the most accomplished figure in the NBA history.
Not long ago, one of Jackson’s most famous players came out and accused of him being a racist. While that has obviously taken some of the shine off his star, his track record is still beyond reproach. It’s unclear what sort of person he is, but it’s undeniable that he is a basketball genius.
