Indians Trading Corey Kluber To Padres?

Are the Indians trading Corey Kluber to the Padres?

San Diego had big dreams of landing an impressive free agent during the offseason.

Unfortunately, up to this point, the team has whiffed on every big name available.

Now it appears the organization is shifting gears and going from trying to sign good player to trying to trade for one.

According to Jon Heyman of the MLB Network, the Padres and in discussions with Cleveland regarding a trade for Kluber.

“In addition to weighing Bumgarner and Keuchel, Padres have talked to Indians about pitching, most likely including Kluber,” he tweeted out.

“Possible though that Kluber trade may have to wait until he shows he’s ready in spring training.”

The potential upside of this trade for San Diego is clear.

When healthy, Kluber is an excellent talent. Over a four-year span from 2014 to 2018 he recorded a 2.85 ERA and a 1.02 WHIP in just over 1,091 innings.

Along the way, Kluber also won a pair of Cy Young awards.

San Diego has had interest in him before, so it certainly stands to reason that they would want him again.

The big issue with Kluber is health. He has not pitched since the beginning of May due toa  fractured right forearm, and it remains to be see what his recovery is like.

If he returns to form, he will be a huge asset to any team that will have him. If not – well, we have seen this movie play out before.

Will the Padres ultimately be able to swing a deal for Kluber? We’ll find out over the next week.
