DeAndre Hopkins made headlines this week when he flipped off a caravan of Trump supporters on his way to Sunday night’s game between the Arizona Cardinals and Seattle Seahawks. A few days later, Hopkins appeared on the All Things Covered podcast with Patrick Peterson and Bryant McFadden and explained why he did what he did.
“Driving down the highway I guess I got in between a train or a bunch of cars that I wasn’t supposed to be in between in my car. And some of those were honking the horn at me and stuff like that I guess to tell me to get out of their way, and I didn’t.
“The guy in front of me stepping on his breaks and tried to stop dead in traffic and I got around him and I stuck him a birdie. I really was about to do the peace sign to him, but this finger right here was kinda hurting, so it didn’t make it up in time,” he continued.
“But I was like, ‘Damn, dude, you’re trying to stop on breaks in dead traffic, cause I’m in your guys’ train and what not just trying to go to work?’
“So, yeah, there wasn’t nothing thrown out the car or anything like that. No speeding. Obviously, you see me right there. If I was in a Ferrari speeding, I don’t think you would be able to take a still picture of me. That’s all.”
Reactions to Hopkins’ explanation were mixed.
Man the some of the comments here smh. I’m a supporter of the President but the person that stopped short on D-Hop 💯 deserved a middle finger for driving like a tool.

Disrespectful to YOUR President. Typical youth today. No respect for authority or the office. I couldn’t stand Obama but I would never flip him off. Because I have some morals and respect for the position of our nation’s leader. If he doesn’t like it then go to another country.

Nothing like being lectured to by someone driving a Ferrari. Let me know how you taxes are doing when 45 leaves office.

It remains to be seen how the Cardinals’ organization will react to everything that has transpired over the past few days.
Fans weren’t shy about how they looked. https://t.co/VEgkGVevr3

Team head coach Kliff Kingsbury refused to comment on the situation on Monday because he didn’t have all the facts. Now he does. Will that change anything? Time will tell.
