With the 2020 Election a little more than one week away, tensions among various political groups are rising. That was particularly evident this past weekend, when one NFL star went viral for his reaction to Trump supporters on the road.
Wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins was driving his black Ferrari to Sunday night’s showdown between the Arizona Cardinals and Seattle Seahawks when he seemingly came across a caravan of Trump supporters. That is when things took a turn.
According to multiple reports, Hopkins swerved through the Trump caravan and promptly gave the finger to various supporters of the President who were in attendance.
Deandre Hopkins flipped off a bunch of Trump supporters on his way to the stadium then put up 10 catches for 100 yards and a TD. Legend. pic.twitter.com/L1m2aijJfN

Recognize him? #NFL player Deandre Hopkins. He was spotted about an hour ago in the Phoenix area (prob on his way to the stadium)cutting off people in the Trump caravan and trying to run them off the road. All while he’s yelling and flipping people off. Oh the OPPRESSION! #TURD pic.twitter.com/WtGEP1O70d

@DeAndreHopkins My 8 yr old son was in one of the cars you were swerving in and out of as you were disrupting the PHX Trump Train drive and trying to cause an accident. You’re a piece of trash. Make your political statements, but you out people at risk today. @espn @AZCardinals pic.twitter.com/7tAuuyM5Or

Needless to say, Twitter had some reactions to the incident.

That is why I do not watch anymore major sports. Spoils asses, and driving reckless and endangering people and also in front of children. @boycottNFLSpons @BoycottNFL_

@AZCardinals congrats on the great win last night but this news this morning took away all the joy. What a role model for our kids… He should be disciplined for this dangerous, rude and wreck less behavior. #cardinals #deandrehopkins #triggered #nfl https://t.co/sX4IttPpvQ

The Cardinals ultimately defeated Seattle 37-34 in overtime on Sunday night. Hopkins finished with 103 yards and a touchdown on 10 catches, so obviously flipping off Trump supporters gave him some extra juice for the outing.

It remains to be seen if the league or Hopkins will ultimately comment on his encounter with the Trump caravan.
Next up for the Cardinals will be a showdown against the Miami Dolphins on Sunday, Nov. 8.
