Will Dabo Swinney Leave Clemson For Alabama?
Will Dabo Swinney leave Clemson for Alabama any time soon?
That is the question many have asked in recent years.
Swinney has done a tremendous job building up the Tigers program to be a legitimate competitor to Saban’s Crimson Tide.
Persistent rumors have suggested that when Saban finally calls it quits, Swinney might be the person Alabama calls to replace him.
It kind of make sense. After all, Swinney has history in Tuscaloosa having been a former walk-on wide receiver.
Recently, ESPN analyst Greg McElroy spoke to the media regarding the odds of something like Swinney to Alabama actually happening.
He does not see it as a particularly viable option.
“No. He’s built his own program in his own image,” he said.
“Going to Alabama, he’d be forced to adopt the mentality that comes with coaching and playing at Alabama.
“Alabama Football is all-business, coupled with a sense of superiority. That’s not really Dabo.
“He’s a former walk-on that considers himself an underdog with a chip on his shoulder. However, if I were him, I’d always leave the possibility of me leaving open for leverage purposes.”
Are the odds of Swinney leaving the Tigers for the Crimson Tide particularly high? Obviously not.
Could it happen, though? Absolutely.
