Urban Meyer Offers Surprising Take On Florida Gators
Urban Meyer offered a surprising take on the Florida Gators this week.
Meyer was on a panel of college football experts for a Fox Sports special when he was tasked with looking ahead at next season.
College football insider Bruce Feldman kicked things off by suggesting that his top ten next season featured Clemson and Ohio State in first and second place.
Former USC quarterback Matt Leinart went next, indicating that Texas A&M was a team to keep an eye on in the new year.
Meyer went in a different direction: Florida.

“I like the Florida Gators and here’s why: Dan Mullen is an excellent coach, it’s his third year in the program,” he said.
“They have to beat Georgia. They have their quarterback coming back, but there is chaos in the state of Florida.
“Miami is down, Florida State is down and when that happens you start taking advantage [in recruiting].”
Meyer is not alone in his assessment. A lot of people think Mullen’s Gators have what it takes to challenge for a College Football Playoff seed.
Alabama will likely remain in title contention, but LSU should experience a drop-off following Joe Burrow’s departure. That means there will be a battle for the non-Alabama College Football Playoff slot that the SEC is sure to receive next season, and it could very well go to Florida.
The Gators finished this past season 11-2 and second in the SEC East only to Georgia.
