Ryan Day’s Marriage Problems Come To Light Amid Ohio State Firing Woes

Ryan Day’s Marriage Problems Come To Light Amid Ohio State Firing Woes

Ryan Day and Ohio State somehow lost to Michigan this weekend, despite the Wolverines coming into the game as 20-point underdogs.

This marked the fourth time in as many years that Day lost to Michigan.

After the game, Day admitted that he was deeply disappointed with how things had gone down.

“Everybody wants to win this game in the worst way, and nobody wants to win it more than we do. It’s our No. 1 goal every year,” Day said postgame.

“And so when you don’t do that, there’s disappointment and frustration. And so, I don’t blame anybody for being upset. I’m upset more than anybody. And those players are, too, and the coaches and everybody that goes at it. We know what we’re getting ourselves into here.”

Day also admitted he was extremely frustrated with how he coached and his guys played.

“Obviously extremely disappointed and angry that we didn’t execute well enough,” he continued.

“This is not easy to accept, and obviously have to take the ownership. I’m the one ultimately that makes the final decisions on things. I felt like we were in a really good place coming into this game.”

Amid rumors that Ohio State was preparing to fire him, a new report came to light this week highlighting the issues that the Buckeyes job caused within Day’s marriage.

“By nature, I’m a very private person. It does give me anxiety to be in the limelight for the attention to be on me, not so much Ryan. He can handle it, but for me and the kids, it’s a little different. I do know that I have a new role and I just can’t hide in my house and pretend this is not all happening. So, I’m getting better at it,” Christina Day told ABC6.

Day came into the Ohio State head coaching job with a lot of sass and a bunch of trash talk for Jim Harbaugh. Years later, the latter is a successful NFL coach coming off a National Championship. And the former? He is about to get fired by the Buckeyes for being an overwhelming disappointment.

Ryan Day’s Coaching Career: From QB Guru to Ohio State’s Head Coach

Ryan Day has rapidly ascended to the pinnacle of college football coaching since taking the helm at Ohio State University in 2019. As the 24th head coach of the Buckeyes, Day has compiled an impressive 56-8 record over five seasons, including a stellar 39-3 mark against Big Ten Conference opponents.

His tenure has been marked by consistent success, with back-to-back Big Ten championships in 2019 and 2020, along with victories in the Sugar Bowl and Rose Bowl.

Day’s journey to becoming a top-tier college football coach began at his alma mater, the University of New Hampshire, where he served as a tight ends coach in 2002. He steadily climbed the coaching ranks, gaining experience at various institutions before joining Ohio State’s staff in 2017 as co-offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach.

Day’s exceptional leadership and strategic acumen were evident early on, leading to his appointment as acting head coach for the first three games of the 2018 season.

Under Day’s guidance, the Ohio State Buckeyes have maintained their status as a perennial powerhouse in college football. His innovative offensive schemes and ability to develop talented quarterbacks have contributed to the team’s continued success on the national stage.

Day’s coaching philosophy emphasizes a balanced approach, combining a high-powered offense with a strong defensive foundation.

Early Coaching Career and Personal Background

Ryan Day’s coaching journey began at his alma mater and progressed through multiple collegiate programs before reaching the NFL. His experience coaching quarterbacks and coordinating offenses prepared him for future leadership roles.

Beginning at New Hampshire

Ryan Day’s coaching career started at the University of New Hampshire in 2002. He served as tight ends coach for one season before transitioning to quarterbacks coach from 2003 to 2004.

This early experience allowed Day to work closely with developing passers and hone his offensive expertise.

During his time at New Hampshire, Day worked under offensive coordinator Chip Kelly, who would later become a key figure in Day’s career progression.

Progression Through the Collegiate Ranks

Day expanded his coaching resume with stints at several prominent college programs. He served as wide receivers coach at Boston College from 2007 to 2011.

In 2012, Day took on the role of offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach at Temple University. His offenses showed improvement each year, catching the attention of NFL teams.

Transition to the NFL

In 2015, Ryan Day made the leap to professional football, joining Chip Kelly’s staff with the Philadelphia Eagles as quarterbacks coach.

This move reunited Day with his former mentor from New Hampshire.

After one season in Philadelphia, Day followed Kelly to the San Francisco 49ers in 2016. As quarterbacks coach, he worked closely with NFL draft prospects and veteran signal-callers alike.

Day’s NFL experience broadened his tactical knowledge and exposed him to elite-level talent evaluation, skills that would prove valuable in his future roles.

Tenure at Ohio State University

Ryan Day took over as head coach of Ohio State University in 2019, ushering in a new era for the powerhouse program. He quickly established himself as one of college football’s top coaches, leading the Buckeyes to continued success in the Big Ten and on the national stage.

Era After Urban Meyer

Day succeeded Urban Meyer as Ohio State’s head coach. He maintained the program’s high standards, going 13-1 in his first full season.

The transition was smooth, with Day building on Meyer’s foundation while implementing his own offensive philosophy.

His innovative schemes and quarterback development helped Ohio State remain an elite program.

Big Ten Dominance and Championships

Under Day, Ohio State continued its dominance in the Big Ten Conference. The team won Big Ten championships in 2019 and 2020.

Day compiled an impressive 23-1 record in regular season conference play from 2019-2023.

The Buckeyes consistently ranked among the top teams nationally, contending for College Football Playoff spots each year.

Notable Quarterbacks and Offensive Achievements

  • Justin Fields (2019-2020): 5,373 passing yards, 63 TDs
  • C.J. Stroud (2021-2022): 8,123 passing yards, 85 TDs
