Colin Cowherd Has Message For Cowboys, Jerry Jones

Colin Cowherd has a message for the Cowboys and Jerry Jones.

That message? Eh.

Cowherd reacted to Dallas’ decision to hire McCarthy as their new head coach without much enthusiasm.

He regarded the move as a safe one, and repeatedly suggested that it was not the direction he would have gone in.

“So Mike McCarthy, who would not have been my first choice – this was a year where there was amazing candidates,” Cowherd said.

“Urban Meyer, the wiz-kids – Lincoln Riley and Matt Rhule – Josh McDaniels, Ron Rivera’s been to a Super Bowl. This feels like, Mike McCarthy – a really safe hire.”

McCarthy may be a “safe” hire, but only because he was the only candidate for the position who has actually won a Super Bowl.

As the head coach of the Green Bay Packers, McCarthy enjoyed immense success right up until the point where he and quarterback Aaron Rodgers stopped seeing eye to eye.

And seeing as Rodgers had beef with his new head coach, Matt LaFleur, before the two had even played a single game together, it is hard to put all the blame on McCarthy.

McCarthy went 125-77-2 in his tenure with Green Bay, ultimately winning five NFC North titles in six years and emerging victorious from Super Bowl XLV.
