Calipari Questions Whether Kentucky Is A Final Four Team

John Calipari questioned whether Kentucky is a Final Four team following their loss to Tennessee on Tuesday night.

Heading into the big SEC showdown, the Wildcats were riding high. Fresh off a victory over Auburn, they seemed to have the wind at their backs and a lot of momentum heading into the home stretch of the season.

Then the Volunteers showed up.

After getting beaten down 81-73 at home in Rupp Arena, Calipari got brutally honest about what the future may hold for his squad.

“Just so everyone knows, when I walked off that court at half I thought, we’ve got a Final Four team,” Calipari tweeted.

“When I walked off after the game I thought, what the heck just happened? My mindset is focused on that first half and how we maintain that effort, that execution and that playmaking.”

Calipari is starved for some late-season and postseason success at this stage. For a guy who generally receives a lot of recognition as one of college basketball’s best coaches, he has a surprisingly thin record to show for it.

The Wildcats have one game left in the regular season to fix things. It will come against a Florida team that is 19-11 overall and 11-6 in conference.

If Kentucky does not emerge from that outing victorious, the program may have some serious issues heading into the NCAA Tournament.
