Cain Velasquez Shooting Motive Revealed In New ‘Abuse’ Rumor

News of former UFC champion Cain Velasquez being arrested for attempted murder sent massive reverberations throughout the entire sports community.

On Monday, Velasquez was apprehended in San Jose after being involved in a shooting that left one person with non-life threatening injuries. Details from the incident were scarce, but deeply troubling.

Because Velasquez was always one of the more respected members of the MMA community, him doing something so seemingly insane left many confused.

On Tuesday, a possible motive for the incident emerged.

According to NBC Bay Area, the former champ “may have been targeting a man suspected of abusing a family member.”

It gets crazier.

“Last week, sheriff’s deputies arrested 43-year-old Harry Eugene Goularte at a San Martin day care center,” the report continued.

“He’s facing charges of lewd acts with a child, but he is currently out of jail on his own recognizance without any bond. Police sources close to the investigation as well as friends of the family tell NBC Bay Area one of the alleged abuse victims is related to Velasquez.”

This rumor was seemingly corroborated by other sources.

Former UFC star Jake Shields apparently heard the same thing.

If true that obviously pains Velasquez’s actions in a slightly different light.

Velasquez was a hugely popular UFC star and two-time champ who played a central part in Brock Lesnar’s career path. Before and after that, he was a highly decorated wrestler.

Velasquez originally went to Iowa Central Community College and wrestled there for one year in 2001. During his stint there he won an NCJAA National Championship in the heavyweight division.

After that, Velasquez transferred to Arizona State University and wrestled for three years while racking up a record of 86-17. After his UFC career finished, he wrestled with Lucha Libre AAA Worldwide and the WWE.

In an insane year for the mixed martial arts/pro wrestling community, for a number of different reasons, this is just par for the course.

It will be interesting to see where this story goes from here.

Will Velasquez’s actions ultimately be deemed justified in the court of law and public opinion? Time will tell.
