Brian Kelly Loses Yet Another Notre Dame Star To Transfer

Brian Kelly lost yet another Notre Dame star to transfer this week.

Linebacker Jonathan Jones was a big special teams piece for the Fighting Irish over the last four years.

Now he will be spending his final season elsewhere.

According to the South Bend Tribune, Jones will be utilizing his graduate transfer and heading to Toledo.

Because he graduated in December, Jones will be eligible to play immediately.

Over the course of four seasons with the Fighting Irish Jones amassed 17 tackles, two tackles for loss and one pass defended in 38 outings.

Toledo has been looking to fill a hole at linebacker, with only two guys returning to play at the position next season.

Under head coach Jason Candle, Toledo has gone 34-19 over the past four seasons.

They also won the MAC Championship in 2016 and earned bowl eligibility in each season.

Last season, Toledo went 6-6 and earned bowl eligibility.

Despite being eligible, the Rockets did not get an outing. They were the only program to hold that distinction.

Notre Dame and Toledo are scheduled to square off in a Fighting Irish home game in 2021, but Jones will obviously not be around at that point.
