2020 NFL Mock Draft: Mel Kiper Reveals Who Is No. 1

There will be many talented players entering the 2020 NFL Draft, that much is clear.

However, ESPN insider Mel Kiper believes that one player is clearly deserving of the No. 1 overall draft pick, and it might be a name that catches some people off guard.

According to Kiper, Ohio State defensive end Chase Young is clearly the best prospect heading into this year’s proceedings.

While Young does not get the sort of praise and attention that Alabama quarterback Tua Tagovaioloa or LSU quarterback Joe Burrow get, he is a legitimate difference-maker who will have little troubling transitioning to the professional ranks.

Given impact Nick Bosa has had on the 49ers this year, Kiper’s assessment is not exactly surprising.

“Everybody needs a great quarterback,” Kiper says.

“Every team needs a great pass rusher. You’re seeing Myles Garrett come in, great job, No. 1 overall. Jadeveon Clowney, Nick Bosa, Joey Bosa, Khalil Mack, Von Miller. These pass rushers are coming in and being dominant.

“That’s what Chase Young has been this year, 13 sacks, double digit sacks last year.”

And Kiper’s glowing review did not stop there.

“This year he’s been lights out coming off the edge,” he said.

“He, right now, is the No. 1 player in the draft. I don’t see that changing between now and April, though those three quarterbacks will be right behind Chase Young by the time we get to late April.”

Will Young ultimately go No. 1 overall in this year’s draft? We’ll find out soon enough.
