1 NBA Team Emerges As Donovan Mitchell Trade Frontrunner

This week a report emerged that the Utah Jazz are now open to the idea of trading team star Donovan Mitchell.

There are apparently doubts regarding the 25-year-old’s ceiling and whether he can be a true No. 1 option on a championship-contending team.

Understandably, there are a number of interested parties when it comes to Mitchell.

But one in particular stands above the rest.

According to Tony Jones of The Athletic, the New York Knicks are going to make a big play for Mitchell’s services.

“Expect the New York Knicks to quickly try and put together a package for Donovan Mitchell, according to league sources. Utah’s bar for Trading Mitchell is sky high. But the Knicks are the team that has the assets to make this a conversation.”

That said – Jones also carved out a big exception to that report.

He does not believe Utah is in any sort of hurry to move on from Mitchell.

“Let’s be clear about this,” he added, “the Jazz are currently not close to a Donovan Mitchell trade. And much like Gobert, they have no issues whatsoever in keeping him.

“Either a team is going to meet the bar to make this a convo, or he will be with the Jazz. They are not giving him away.”

To date, two NBA teams have consistently been linked to Mitchell whenever the topic of a trade comes up. That said, thus far nothing has ever materialized on that front.

It will be interesting to see if circumstances change going forward.

The Jazz recently unloaded Rudy Gobert on the Minnesota Timberwolves in return for a monster haul. They’ll likely be expecting something similar for Mitchell.

Given how much Mitchell and Gobert hated each other, it’d be pretty funny if they got traded in the same offseason.

Will Mitchell still be a member of the Jazz by the time the 2021-22 NBA season rolls around?

Time will tell.
