Zach Wilson led his team’s offense in the New York Jets’ 21-14 victory over the Houston Texans on Sunday.
After missing four outings as a result of his knee injury, the former BYU standout struggled mightily in the early going. While recording his 10th interception of the year, Wilson also offered up this memorable lowlight:
Staring down third-and-17 late in the first quarter, Wilson took a shotgun snap and ran up the middle. At that point, inexplicably, he tossed a shovel pass to running back Ty Johnson – who had just turned his back to him and was preparing to block for what he presumed was Wilson’s attempt to run the ball himself.
Just incredible stuff.
Wilson calmed down a bit eventually, particularly in the second half, ultimately doing just enough not to cost his squad the game.
Despite the 22-year-old not looking especially impressive, one person loved what she saw from him: his girlfriend, Abbey Gile.
Rather than look at the glass half empty, she opted for a half full approach.
Wilson’s final stat line on the day was: 145 passing yards, a rushing touchdown and one brutal pick. Clearly his better half didn’t mind, though.

Gile is also a much more mundane social media personality than Wilson’s mother, Lisa.

It’s good that, given how brutal the New York media is, Wilson has a calming force like Gile around to balance out the tornado of craziness that is his mom.
