Youngstown State Coach Hits Northern Iowa Player With Cheap Shot

Youngstown State Coach Hits Northern Iowa Player With Cheap Shot

An FCS spring meeting between the Northern Iowa Panthers and Youngstown State Penguins sparked controversy this weekend due to the actions of a coach from the latter side’s program.

Part of the way through the first half, Northern Iowa wide receiver Quan Hampton caught the ball and intentionally ran out of bounds near the Youngstown bench.

No harm, no foul – right?

Not quite.

Inexplicably, a Youngstown coach took the opportunity to land a cheap shot on Hampton.

There was ultimately no flag on the play.

While Northern Iowa is no doubt satisfied with how the day went for them in general, having emerged with a 21-0 win, they can’t be too pleased with that particular sequence.

There has been a pattern across several sports over the past few weeks of dirty plays going unrecognized and unpunished — even if someone ends up with a fractured limb as a result.

Hopefully this doesn’t get added to that list.

Presumably it will be reviewed over the next few days and at some point a proper response to what transpired will hopefully be announced.
