Yasiel Puig Is Signing With Florida Marlins

Yasiel Puig is signing with the Florida Marlins, that much is clear.

Puig, 29, is one of the more interest free agents available this year.

His value as a baseball player has fluctuated dramatically over the past few years and his polarizing personality leaves general managers divided on his value.

Last year, Puig had something of a disappointing season with the Cincinnati Reds and then Cleveland Indians. Overall he hit .267 with 24 home runs for the year.

According to Jon Heyman of the MLB Network, Puig met with Miami officials this week during the Winter Meetings in San Diego.

Puig to the Marlins makes sense on a lot of different levels.

For Miami, it would be the opportunity to take a local guy with a big name and allow him to knock balls deep for a relatively affordable price.

Puig, meanwhile, would get the opportunity to rebuild his reputation as a ballplayer a bit in hops of maybe getting a better deal down the road.

Factor in Puig’s familiarity with manager Don Mattingly, and you have the recipe for a true win-win. Both sides would benefit from this deal.

Is Puig to Miami a lock? No. Obviously anything can happen, and nothing is official until both parties put ink to pen. But this is a union that would clearly make sense for all involved, so chances are good that it will happen.
