The winner of Notre Dame vs Iowa State is clear, says ESPN.

Heading into this season there was a lot of hype surrounding the Fighting Irish, as there is most years.

And while Notre Dame certainly had a fine campaign, it was a bit underwhelming given the expectations for it.

The same could be said for the bowl game in which the program will participate this year.

There was some early speculation last week that perhaps Notre Dame would be paired up with Texas, pitting two fierce fanbases together in what surely would have been an exciting showdown.

Instead Notre Dame will take on the Cyclones on Dec. 28 in the Camping World Bowl.

In the leadup to this outing, ESPN insider Adam Rittenberg released his predictions for how he sees this particular game unfolding.

“The coaching matchups here are fascinating, as Brian Kelly leads Notre Dame against Iowa State and Matt Campbell, who would be on the short list to succeed Kelly in South Bend,” he wrote.

“Defensive coordinators Jon Heacock (Iowa State) and Clark Lea (Notre Dame) are both excellent tacticians. Notre Dame’s offense is a little more reliable, though, and gets the win behind the Ian Book-Chase Claypool passing connection.”

Ultimately, Rittenberg has Notre Dame winning this one 31-23.
