Will the Lakers waive DeMarcus Cousins after his death threat tape leak?

That is the question on the minds of basketball fans across the nation after TMZ published audio of Cousins allegedly making death towards an ex-girlfriend last week.

In the audio, a man’s voice can be heard telling the mother of Cousins’ 7-year-old son that he would “put a bullet in your (expletive) head.”

The police department in Mobile, Alabama, is currently investigating the matter and reportedly has received a copy of the recording.

Cousins’ ex-girlfriend filed a report with the police last week, immediately after the alleged conversation is said to have taken place.

The Lakers big man is now facing one charge of misdemeanor harassing communications.

The heated conversation is said to have occurred just one day before Cousins married Morgan Lang in Atlanta, Georgia.

“I’m gonna ask you this one more time before I take it to another level. Can I have my son here, please?” man asks on the recording.

“Go shoot the ball,” a woman responds.

“Can I have my son here, please?” the man asks again.

“No. He’s not coming,” the woman replies.

“I’m going to make sure I put a bullet in your (expletive) head,” the man finally says.

The NBA says it is also investigating the matter.

Cousins, 29, signed a one-year deal with the Lakers this summer. Despite a lot of hype surrounding the move, he tore his left ACL in August – rendering him likely unable to help the team this year.

The obvious question now is: will LA move to dump Cousins and his deal? He clearly will not be able to help them on the court, and now he is becoming an off the court distraction.

Considering the Lakers have their sights set on Andre Iguodala, among other potential players, it would not be particularly surprising if the team decided they could put Cousins’ roster spot to better use.
