This year’s game will be played at the Hard Rock Stadium in Miami, Florida.
It will feature the AFC-winning Kansas City Chiefs taking on the NFC-winning San Francisco 49ers.
In order to get to this point, the Chiefs had a first round bye. From there, they defeated the Houston Texans in the Divisional Round and the Tennessee Titans in the AFC Championship Game.
The Niners had a similar path. They had a first round bye, as well. From there they took on and beat the Minnesota Vikings in the Divisional Round and the Green Bay Packers in the NFC Championship Game.
This match-up will feature a battle between two very different quarterbacks.
Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes is widely viewed as the best passer in the NFL. If not for some injury issues slowing him down this season, he likely would have once again been in contention for an MVP.
Niners quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo is more of a game manager – as evidenced by his eight passing attempt performance in the conference title game.
Sunday will make San Francisco’s first Super Bowl appearance in 25 years, and Kansas City’s first in 50 years.
The outing will put arguably the best defense in the league in the Niners versus perhaps the NFL’s best offense in the Chiefs.
It will also be a battle of old school coaching taking on new school coaching.
Kansas City’s Andy Reid is perhaps the best active NFL coach to have never won a Super Bowl. San Francisco’s Kyle Shanahan is a rising star looking to erase memories of a prior Super Bowl collapse against the New England Patriots.
The storylines in this outing are plentiful.
