What Clippers Truly Think of Lakers Adding Russell Westbrook

The Los Angeles Lakers acquired Russell Westbrook from the Washington Wizards this past offseason.

While some believe the move was a good one and makes LA the favorites to claim a title, others think it was a huge blunder. Time will tell who’ll ultimately be on the right side of history.

One interesting subplot to all this is that the Lakers’ in-city rivals, the Los Angeles Clippers, were also at one point said to be targeting Westbrook.

Or at least that’s what everyone assumed.

During a recent episode of The Lowe Post podcast, ESPN NBA insider Zach Lowe revealed that they were never actually interested in the 32-year-old MVP.

“The Clippers were never interested in Russell Westbrook… They were a rumored Russell Westbrook trade in a few places whenever that happened. They were never interested. That was never a real thing. I think they value their optionality too much,” he said.

Is this the truth or simply media spin by the Clippers? It’s impossible to know for certain. It’s just a little difficult to reconcile the fact that they’re one of three teams in the hunt for a John Wall trade, but Westbrook didn’t appeal to them. Something in that equation doesn’t quite jive.

Either way, this promises to be an interesting season. The Lakers and Clippers have been battling for LA supremacy for years now. Who will ultimately prevail? Time will tell.
