Wake Forest Star Transferring To Oregon

A Wake Forest star is transferring to Oregon, it would appear.

Early Tuesday afternoon, word came down that Wake Forest starting quarterback Jamie Newman was looking to make a move.

In a statement, the team’s head coach Dave Clawson said that his quarterback “informed me today that he will finish his eligibility at another school as a graduate transfer.”

The move came as a surprise to some.

“We appreciate Jamie’s contribution to our program’s success and wish him well as he continues his career,” Clawson added.

According to Pete Thamel of Yahoo! Sports, Oregon and Newman are now in serious talks regarding him joining the Ducks.

“There’s mutual interest between former Wake Forest QB Jamie Newman and Oregon,” he reported.

“The Ducks have emerged as the favorite for the Wake Forest transfer. Big void in Eugene with the departure of Justin Herbert.”

For the year Newman recorded 2,868 yards, 26 scores and 11 picks, all while completing more than 60 percent of his passes. Behind his efforts Wake Forest finished 8-5 on the season.
