US Women’s Soccer Threatens To Take Knee, Trump Strikes Back

US women’s soccer players have indicated a desire to take a knee during the National Anthem, so President Donald Trump responded accordingly.

If the US women’s team protests the national anthem, President Trump promises to no longer watch their games.

This past week, the US Soccer Federation pulled back rules regarding the National Anthem. Previously, players were required to stand. After the rule modification, that is no longer the case.

The US Soccer Federation oversees both the male and female US soccer teams. However, the women’s team has been far more vocal about protesting the National Anthem than the men’s team has.

In response to the US women’s team now having the green light to take a knee, President Trump sent out a fiery tweet.

“I won’t be watching much anymore,” he tweeted.

President Trump was not alone in feeling that way.

Rep. Matt Gaetz echoed his sentiments.

“I’d rather the US not have a soccer team than have a soccer team that won’t stand for the National Anthem,” he tweeted.

“You shouldn’t get to play under our flag as our national team if you won’t stand when it is raised.”

US soccer originally instituted a ban on protesting the National Anthem in 2017, however they ultimately caved to public pressure and rescinded it this year.
