Trevor Bauer Getting Suspended Over Rob Manfred Criticism?
Is Trevor Bauer getting suspended over his criticism of MLB commissioner Rob Manfred? That is the question some fans are asking given how harsh his critique was.
Manfred drew the ire of players and fans alike on Monday afternoon when he backtracked on an earlier prediction that the MLB season would ultimately resume.
“I’m not confident,” he said.
“I think there’s real risk, and as long as there’s no dialogue, that real risk is gonna continue.”
Manfred suggested that while the owners were eager to resume play the same could be said for the players.
“The owners are 100 percent committed to getting baseball back on the field,” Manfred said. “Unfortunately, I can’t tell you that I’m 100 percent certain that’s gonna happen.”
In response, Bauer absolutely exploded on Twitter in a series of messages.
“So, Rob, explain to us how you can be 100% sure that there’s going to be baseball but not confident there will be baseball at the same time?” he wrote.
“Hmmm. What changed between those statements. Players told you to set the season, but it’s too early to set the season right now.”
As of this moment, Manfred has yet to respond to Bauer’s criticism. Based on how sensitive sports commissioners typically are to criticism, it would not be particularly surprising to see him taking some sort of action to punish Bauer. Then again, if nobody’s playing baseball this year – there is not much Manfred can do.
