Taysom Hill Has Interesting Demand For Saints

Taysom Hill has an interesting demand for the Saints.

That demand? He wants to be the franchise quarterback for the organization.

Hill, 29, is a restricted free agent this offseason.

According to Associated Press NFL insider Rob Maaddi, the New Orleans dual threat star expressed a desire to be a franchise quarterback and would welcome a role with another team if the Saints could not make that happen.

“I definitely view myself as a franchise QB,” he said.

“If New Orleans don’t view me that way then I have to leave.”

For what is worth, Hill also said he loved playing with starting quarterback Drew Brees this past season. And the feeling seems to be mutual, as Brees has openly offered some sort of playing time sharing thing with Hill if that is what the younger quarterback and team want.

If Brees did not respect Hill, he definitely would not have made the offer.

What is interesting about all this is that Hill is being talked about like he is some sort of young, talented rookie. The reality is, he literally just one year younger than Carolina Panthers quarterback Cam Newton – and everyone talks about Newton like his NFL career is almost done.

Clearly injuries and mileage prevent it from being an apples to apples comparison, but it is still fascinating that Hill is being talked about like someone who an entire franchise can build around when he is a.) kind of old and b.) unproven in an expanded role.

Will Hill ultimately be the starter for the Saints come next season? Time will tell. But if the organization does opt to invest him in him, it will be intriguing to see how the experiment pans out for all involved.
