Surprising New Carolina Panthers Coaching Candidate Emerges

A surprising new Carolina Panthers coaching candidate emerges from the shadows this week.

Former Green Bay Packers head coach, Mike McCarthy, reportedly interviewed with the Panthers this past Sunday.

According to ESPN NFL insider Adam Schefter, the interview took place after Carolina fell to the Indianapolis Colts 38-6.

Panthers team owner David Tepper has deep ties to the city of Pittsburgh, and that just happens to be where McCarthy is from.

In terms of coaching candidates, the Panthers could do a lot worse than McCarthy.

Over the course of more than 200 games with the Green Bay Packers McCarthy put together a record of 125-77-2 and won a Super Bowl.

McCarthy’s time in Green Bay ended unceremoniously due to philosophical differences with quarterback Aaron Rodgers, but all in all he was a very solid head coach from start to finish.
