San Francisco 49ers Reject Tom Brady

The San Francisco 49ers have rejected Tom Brady. Although he wanted to come home, the 49ers are moving forward with Jimmy Garoppolo instead.

After the Niners’ heartbreaking defeat at the hands of the Kansas City Chiefs in the Super Bowl, many speculated that the team might go out and upgrade at quarterback. One of the potential upgrades that frequently got mentioned was Brady.

On Sunday, NFL analyst Chris Simms revealed what sources close to the situation had passed on to him regarding the matter.

“The 49ers are out on Tom Brady,” he said. “That is not going to happen. In my understanding, Tom Brady’s number one choice was to go to San Francisco and be the starting quarterback for the San Francisco 49ers.

“I don’t know what happened, but something happened in the last few days, to my understanding, to find out that the 49ers are out on Tom Brady, and they will be standing pat with Jimmy Garoppolo as their starting quarterback.”

While Garoppolo is certainly no Patrick Mahomes, it is not particularly difficult to understand why the 49ers would prefer him to Brady at this stage in the game.

Brady, 42, is not the player he was once. Obviously, he is a six-time Super Bowl champ and nobody can take that away from him – but he was noticeably worse in 2019 than he has been in past seasons.

It makes very little sense to move away from a 28-year-old Garoppolo whose best days may still be ahead of him, in favor of a 42-year-old Brady who is very obviously on the decline.

While name recognition will prevent many from seeing the reality of the situation San Francisco was confronted with, make no mistake about it – the team made the right choice.
