Saints Reveal Surprising Drew Brees Injury Update
The Saints revealed a surprising Drew Brees injury update this week.
Heading into Sunday’s showdown with the Carolina Panthers, Brees is apparently still dealing with his nagging knee injury.
On Thursday, New Orleans head coach Sean Payton told reporters that he would be listing Brees on the injury report for the week. However, barring a catastrophic turn for the worse, Brees would likely play this weekend.
Brees’ knee issue was described as “inflammation” in the knee, but specifics were not offered.
The 40-year-old is having a solid year, but has been bogged down by injures throughout the season.
New Orleans’ star wide receiver, Michael Thomas, was also listed on the injury report this week with a hand ailment.
Payton said Brees had some inflammation in his knee, they just listed him on the injury report in case he had to put a sleeve on, said he’s “fine”

According to Payton, neither Thomas nor Brees will be rested in the team’s Week 17 game.
“No, no, no, no, no, no. Absolutely no,” Payton said.
“We’re still playing for the 1-, 2- or 3-seed.”
As things currently stand, the Saints have control of the No. 3 seed in the NFC. However, seeing as they have the same record as the San Francisco 49ers and Green Bay Packers, they are still in contention for a postseason bye.
