Sadio Mane Gets Brutally Honest About Leicester Win

Sadio Mane got brutally honest about Saturday’s 2-1 Leicester win.

Speaking to reporters after the game, Mane touched on a variety of topics including the Reds maintaining a 100 percent record, James Milner’s penalty and the sequence leading up to it, and his goal early in the game.

With the game knotted at 1 apiece, Milner netted a 95th minute penalty to earn a 2-1 victory over the Foxes.

Prior to that score, Liverpool got awarded a penalty after Mark Albrighton caught Mane’s foot in the area, sending the forward toppling over.

Referee Chris Kavanagh pointed to the spot and the decision was confirmed by a VAR review, but some still felt the call was a controversial one.

When asked about how he felt about everything that unfolded Saturday, Mane was very honest.

“To be honest, I think it was a really, really tough game,” he said.

“We knew that before and expected it.

“We played the Champions League [on Wednesday] and now we carry on with this intense game,” he continued.

“But it’s normal, it’s the Premier League and we have to expect it all the time.”

For Mane, it is all about focusing on what is important.

“At the end of the day, the most important thing is the three points,” he said.

“It doesn’t matter how tired we are.”

To Mane, the penalty and leading up to it are all natural parts of the game.

“I think it would have been so important for us to keep managing the game, but sometimes it’s not easy because Leicester is a very, very good team and caused us many problems.

“They equalised the game and that’s why in football you never give up, that’s what we try to do as a team.

“At the end of the game, we got a penalty. To be honest, we just have to say we deserved to win this game.”

Mane also took a moment to speak out about his 40th minute score and how it would not have been possible without a perfect set up.

“The assist was just incredible,” said Mane of Milner.

“I didn’t expect that he saw me because usually he never gives me that kind of ball!

“It was just a great assist from Milner and I just try to finish each ball. Lucky boy, I just finished this one and I’m happy to score a goal, especially as we got the three points.”
