The Los Angeles Lakers defeated the Cleveland Cavaliers 113-101 on Friday night. With the win, LA moved to 3-3 on the year and finally began to look like the team everyone thought they’d be in the preseason.

Interestingly enough, however, the on-court product wasn’t the main takeaway from this game.

Rather, the big viral story after the fact was what Russell Westbrook did.

This sequence in the 4th quarter caught social media’s eye immediately:

Naturally, the internet being the internet, some folks didn’t respond well to the gesture.

Westbrook ultimately finished the game with 19 points, 6 rebounds and 5 assists in 34 minutes of action.

Interestingly enough, this isn’t he first time the Lakers have dealt with this sort of controversy. LeBron James went viral not long ago for also throwing up gang signs. It’s something of a reoccurring theme for this group.

Will anything come of Westbrook’s actions? Probably not. But it is interesting that in this day and age it’s something that still generates headlines.
