Are the Rockies trading Nolan Arenado to the Cubs or Cardinals?

Rumors have been running rampant all offseason that Colorado may move the third baseman if a good deal comes along. To date, one has not.

That may all be changing, though.

In a new report, ESPN MLB insider Jeff Passan indicates that Colorado is contemplating trading Arenado to either Chicago or St. Louis.

The Rockies obviously want a healthy mix of prospects and talent for a proven talent like Arenado, and both of those organizations have that.

Furthermore, both St. Louis and Chicago can bring something unique to the table.

The Cardinals have the sort of salary flexibility that makes doing a trade like this far easier. Meanwhile, the Cubs have big names like Willson Contreras that can sweeten the offer with.

In his report, Passan also indicated that Colorado has had conversations with the Atlanta Braves regarding Arenado – but they have not gone anywhere.

If a good deal does not come along, Arenado will simply remain on the roster. He has a .295 career average and three 40 home run seasons on the books.

As far as the Rockies are concerned, he is simply too good to give away for anything other than a great trade package.
