Red Sox Trading Mookie Betts To Padres

The Red Sox are trading Mookie Betts the Padres, it appears.

Boston has made it no secret that the team desperately wants to move Betts’ massive contract.

Unfortunately, to date, there have been no serious offers.

That all changed this week, apparently.

According to Dennis Lin of The Athletic, San Diego has engaged Boston in trade talks for the former MVP.

The Padres have also been linked to Francisco Lindor, Starling Marte, David Price and Mike Clevinger.

San Diego already checked off one box earlier in the offseason when it acquired Tommy Pham. Clearly the team feels there are still moves that need to be made.

Should this trade occur, the Padres would look to send Wil Myers and the $61 million he is set to get over the next three years to Boston. Obviously a certain amount of prospects would also be included in the deal.

Betts is owed $27 million this coming year and will become a free agent after that. The Red Sox are reportedly hoping to package him and David Price in any prospective deal.

If this deal ultimately goes down, it will likely happen at some point in the next few weeks.
