The New England Patriots currently have the No. 15 pick in the 2021 NFL Draft.
It is something of an open secret at this point that the team desperately wants to move up and select a quarterback.
Apparently the memory of last year’s rudderless, embarrassing offense is lingering in the front office’s mind, and there is an unspoken understanding that the quarterbacks currently on the roster are not long-term solutions.
So what’s the plan?
Well, that’s where things get interesting.
According to Jeff Howe of The Athletic, the Patriots are absolutely in love with Justin Fields out of Ohio State.
“With the Patriots, these trade discussions are a strong indication they’ve found conviction in at least one of those top QBs, and word is they think highly of Justin Fields – highly enough that they’ve even spoken with the Falcons about the fourth pick,” he wrote.

Thus far, the Patriots have reached out to two teams regarding a possible trade. In either scenario, the front office seems to believe that it will be in decent position to scoop up a potentially falling Fields – but obviously that remains to be seen.
What is beyond doubt at this juncture is that New England must do something. Things got so bad last year that, at one point, opposing teams were openly taunting how bad they were.
Will the Patriots ultimately be able to nab their man? An answer to that question should emerge in roughly 24 hours.
