Nick Saban Makes Surprising Statement About Auburn Game

Nick Saban made a surprising statement about the Auburn game prior to the Iron Bowl.

Heading into Saturday, one of the biggest and most consequential games on the agenda was Alabama vs Auburn.

Earlier in the week, Saban suggested that Auburn would be his program’s toughest test of the year.

This caught some off guard given the fact that Alabama played against and lost to an LSU team that is currently ranked No. 2 in the nation is really No. 1 in a lot of people’s eyes.

On Saturday, Saban appeared on ESPN’s Gameday to clear up those comments.

“Discipline is the most important thing when you play against an offense we’re going to face against Auburn,” he said.

“They do a lot of different things. Lots of motions, lots of shifts and formations that can create some confusion.

“Basically, we need to look at the right things, key the right thing. We need to stay focused on what we need to do to do our jobs well.”

Saban also offered some clarity on the status of Mac Jones, the team’s newly-minted starting quarterback.

“I think Mac’s had a nice week of practice and I think he’s starting to assume the role of leadership and be a commander,” he said.

“I think he has to play within himself. It’s very important, because their defense is very good, that the people around him play well too.”

Alabama vs Auburn will have a drastic impact on the College Football Playoff, so it will be interesting to see how this one plays out.
