Teddy Bridgewater Replacing Cam Newton With Panthers?
Teddy Bridgewater may be replacing Cam Newton with the Carolina Panthers sooner rather than later.
On Tuesday morning, news broke that Carolina had permitted Newton to seek out a trade. The move ended months of speculation as to whether new head coach Matt Rhule would try to make things work with his former league MVP quarterback.
A new day is coming to the Panthers, and it will feature someone other than Newton leading the offense.
Who might that someone be?
According to multiple reports, Bridgewater is the early favorite.
Last season, Bridgewater served as a backup to New Orleans Saints quarterback Drew Brees.
When Brees went out with an injury, Bridgewater led the team to a 5-0 record. In the process, he threw for 1,384 yards and nine touchdowns on nearly 70 percent passing.
According to ESPN NFL insider Dianna Russini, Bridgewater to Carolina is peaking up a lot of steam.
The Carolina Panthers are showing very strong interest in quarterback Teddy Bridgewater per sources. I’m told the conversations have been going very well. #panthers

Neither Kyle Allen nor Will Grier are legitimate starting options in the NFL. Moreover, the Panthers’ draft pick is too low to make them a viable contender for the likes of Joe Burrow and Tua Tagovailia. Justin Herbert is likely the team’s best case scenario, and even he may be gone to someone like the Miami Dolphins depending on what the Washington Redskins and Detroit Lions do.
Bridgewater is only 27 years old and showed a ton of promise last season. If he plays similarly well in 2020-21, he could be a real steal for the Panthers this offseason.
