Deshaun Watson Demanding Trade From Houston Texans?

Is Deshaun Watson demanding a trade from the Houston Texans this year? Some ESPN insiders seem to think so.

Watson has been Houston’s lone bright spot for the last few years now. He is coming off back to back Pro Bowls and in 2018 put up some of the best totals of his career.

That year, he amassed 4,165 yards on 68.3 percent completion rate and recorded 8.2 yards per attempt. Watson also chipped in 26 touchdowns and nine picks through the air, as well as five touchdowns on the ground.

While he did not reach the same heights in 2019, he still had a very strong season.

Unfortunately, this past offseason the Texans made the bizarre decision to trade away Watson’s best wide receiver, DeAndre Hopkins, for essentially nothing. Now he has fewer weapons to work with going into 2020.

As a result, ESPN analyst Stephen A. Smith appeared on First Take this week and argued that Watson should demand a trade.

“If I’m Deshaun Watson, I’d go into Bill O’Brien’s office and I’d ask to be traded,” he said.

While it is unlikely that Watson will demand a trade this offseason, Smith’s point is a fair one. Thus far, the organization has done very little to surround him with talent. If that does not change soon, it would not be particularly surprising to see him seek a way out of Houston.
